Notes, recent work, and ideas from Natural Studio, a Brooklyn-based photography studio creating natural, contemporary portraits and headshots for professionals, creatives, and businesses throughout New York City.

Actor Headshots NYC

At Natural Studio, we photograph actor headshots with a relaxed, natural approach at our private Brooklyn studio and on location throughout New York City.

A strong acting headshot needs to do something relatively simple: show what you look like while giving a sense of who you are. We want the photographs to feel polished and professional without becoming overly posed, styled, or retouched.

Our approach is inspired by natural light and refined simplicity. We use beautiful, soft lighting, clean backgrounds, and natural direction to keep the attention on expression and personality.

During the session, we shoot a range of expressions and variations so you'll have different options to choose from. We also share images as we go, allowing us to work collaboratively and make adjustments throughout the shoot.

Wardrobe can be kept simple, and depending on the session, we can photograph multiple looks to create additional range. Our goal isn't to make each look dramatically different, but to create subtle variations that can be useful for different roles, casting situations, and professional needs.

After the shoot, you'll receive an online gallery to select your favorite images for final retouching. Retouching is kept natural so that the finished headshots still look like you.

Our Brooklyn studio provides a quiet, private setting for actor headshots and is conveniently located near Park Slope and Gowanus. We also photograph actors outdoors and on location throughout NYC when a different environment or feeling is desired.

You can explore more of our portrait and headshot photography on the Natural Studio website and read reviews from our clients on Google and our Testimonials page.

If you're an actor looking for new headshots in NYC, please feel free to get in touch through our Contact page. We'd love to work with you.

Cheers,
NS

What Our Clients Say About Our NYC Portraits & Headshots

One of the things we appreciate most is hearing from clients after their shoots. At Natural Studio, we want the experience of being photographed to feel relaxed, collaborative, and enjoyable—and, most importantly, we want people to come away with photographs that genuinely feel like them.

Here’s what some of our portrait and headshot clients have said about working with us:

“Natural Studio was understanding, sensitive, and genuinely interested in finding out what I needed and how I wanted my photos to look. They are professional, responsible, and easy going as well as very passionate about photography. Their work stood out as being fresh and real instead of all the other plain identical works of other studios I had found before. After I began using the new photos, I definitely started getting more job offers as the pictures gave clients a better perspective of my personality. It was a wonderful experience and the pictures are great!”
— Kristina Shakhpazian, Model & Actress
“It was a pleasure to work with Natural Studio! They were really patient and thorough, allowing me to try out several combinations of outfits, accessories, and locations during our outdoor shoot. The turnaround in terms of getting the images back for selection and getting the final, edited images was really quick, allowing me to start using them immediately. What’s more, the photos feel natural and really captured my personality.”
— Annie N., Research Analyst
“What a delight! I am SO HAPPY I shot with Brad. I got all the looks I wanted and he totally nailed the natural but heightened look. I’m thrilled with how they turned out. The studio was easy to get to, Brad was quick to respond to my emails, everything felt flexible and relaxed. 10/10 would recommend!”
— Abby Pierce, Actor, NYC
“Really great experience getting headshots. I felt 100% comfortable and got so many great shots to choose from. Brad did an amazing job with the lighting and the results far exceeded my expectations. I think the best part of this experience is that I wound up with headshots that feel more real and reflect who I feel I am… more so than the kind of headshots one might typically expect. Highly recommended.”
— Peter Noah, Product Designer, NYC
“Natural Studio NYC was extremely proficient at creating the perfect professional headshots, even for the less photogenic like me. Brad put me at ease, flexibly adapted to different ideas and sent them back to me the same day. Quotes allow you to choose the number of pictures that would suit you and leaves you with the ones you love for years to come. Sent his details to colleagues and friends afterwards for this very reason!”
— Pimpernel Maria Preston
“I could not have had a better experience with Natural Studio! I needed headshots for upcoming press, and Brad went above and beyond to ensure that i came away with what I needed. The shoot day was a pleasure — and Brad’s photography expertise was evident with every shot. Speedy delivery of the proofs the next morning was also much appreciated. All in all, I am thrilled with my headshots and look forward to working with Natural Studio again as soon as possible!”
— Katherine Neukomm
“I did a photoshoot with Brad, and after over 20 years in the industry and working as a model, I can tell you he is amazing. He understands your face and creates the best light.”
— Charlotte Bonstrom-Assaf, Model, NYC

What we especially love about these comments is how often clients mention feeling comfortable, having a relaxed experience, and ending up with photographs that feel natural and true to who they are. That's exactly what we aim for with every shoot.

NYC Headshots That Go Beyond The Norm

We often hear from clients that they came to Natural Studio because they were looking for something different from the traditional professional headshot.

They wanted photographs that felt fresh, natural, and real—professional enough for work, but with more personality and less of the overly posed or conventional corporate feeling they were seeing elsewhere.

That's very much how we think about headshot photography.

At Natural Studio, we approach a headshot as a portrait. We pay attention to beautiful light, composition, expression, and the individual person in front of the camera. Rather than relying on a formula, we work collaboratively throughout the shoot to create photographs that feel relaxed, contemporary, and specific to you.

The result can still function perfectly as a professional headshot, but it doesn't necessarily have to look like a traditional one.

For some clients, that means a simple studio portrait with beautiful light and a natural expression. For others, it might mean a wider composition, a different background, an outdoor setting, or an environmental portrait that shows a little more personality and context.

We photograph actors, artists, entrepreneurs, executives, designers, creatives, and professionals across a broad range of industries. Our images are used for:

  • LinkedIn and professional profiles

  • Company websites and biographies

  • Personal branding

  • Acting headshots

  • Press and publicity

  • Social media

  • Corporate and executive portraits

  • Real estate

  • Model and creative portfolios

Our private studio is located in Brooklyn near Park Slope and Gowanus, and we also photograph people on location throughout New York City.

If you're looking for an NYC headshot that feels a little less conventional—and a little more like you—we'd love to hear from you.

Cheers,
NS

Finding A Professional Photographer in NYC

Looking for a professional portrait or headshot photographer in New York City? With so many photographers and different styles to choose from, it can be difficult to know where to begin.

Beyond simply finding photographs you like, there are a number of things worth considering when deciding who is right for you.

1. Specialization

Start by looking at what the photographer actually specializes in. Portrait photography requires more than technical knowledge—it also requires an ability to work with people, provide direction, and create an environment where someone can feel comfortable in front of the camera.

At Natural Studio, portraits and headshots are the focus of what we do. We photograph individuals and teams across a wide range of professions, but our approach remains centered around people.

2. Lighting

Light has an enormous influence on how a portrait looks and feels. It can be soft or dramatic, natural or highly produced, flattering or intentionally revealing.

Our approach is inspired by natural light. Whether we're using window light, studio lighting, or a combination of both, we aim for light that feels beautiful and natural rather than calling attention to the technique behind it.

3. Expression & Connection

A technically perfect photograph isn't necessarily a compelling portrait. Expression, body language, and a sense of connection can make the difference between a photograph that simply documents what someone looks like and one that actually feels like them.

We pay particular attention to the subtle moments between expressions—the small changes that can bring personality and life into a portrait.

4. Style

Every photographer has a visual point of view, whether it's highly stylized, traditional, dramatic, minimal, or somewhere in between.

Take some time to look through a photographer's portfolio and ask yourself whether the overall feeling of the work is something you can imagine yourself in.

At Natural Studio, our aesthetic is clean, contemporary, and relaxed, with an appreciation for simplicity and photographs that can remain relevant over time.

5. Attention to Detail

Great portraits are often the result of many small decisions working together: lighting, composition, wardrobe, background, posture, expression, and even seemingly minor details.

We pay close attention to these elements while shooting so that the photograph is working before it ever reaches the retouching stage.

6. Retouching

It's worth considering how you want your finished photographs to look.

Our approach to retouching is natural. We refine the image and address temporary distractions while preserving skin texture, character, and the details that make someone look like themselves.

The goal isn't to transform the person. It's to finish the photograph.

7. The Experience

Being photographed can feel unfamiliar, so the experience itself matters.

A good portrait session should give you time to settle in, experiment, and see what's working. At Natural Studio, we share images throughout the shoot so that the process is collaborative rather than leaving you wondering what the photographs look like until afterward.

Sessions can take place at our private Brooklyn studio or on location at offices, homes, and other spaces throughout New York City and the surrounding area.

8. Portfolio & Reviews

Finally, look at the photographer's actual body of work. A portfolio should give you a clear sense of their aesthetic and the consistency of what they produce.

Client reviews can tell you something different: what it actually feels like to work with them.

You can explore our portrait and headshot portfolio on the Natural Studio website and read reviews from our clients on Google and our Testimonials page.

Finding the Right Photographer for You

Ultimately, choosing a portrait photographer is personal. Look for someone whose work you respond to, whose approach makes sense for what you need, and whose photographs feel like something you'd be happy to use and live with.

At Natural Studio, we create portraits and headshots with beautiful light, simple compositions, and a relaxed, natural approach. We photograph people at our private Brooklyn studio and on location throughout NYC.

If that sounds like what you're looking for, we'd love to hear from you.

Cheers,
NS

Portraits & Headshots in NYC

Finding the right portrait or headshot photographer in New York City isn't always easy. There are countless options, but photography is personal—the style, feeling, and overall approach need to connect with what you're looking for.

Maybe you want something professional, but not overly corporate. Polished, but not overly retouched. Contemporary, but still timeless. Most importantly, you want a photograph that feels natural and actually looks like you.

That's the approach behind Natural Studio.

We specialize in portraits and headshots with beautiful light, simple compositions, and a relaxed, natural feel. Rather than relying on a formula, we work individually with each person to create photographs that feel specific to them.

A Relaxed, Collaborative Approach

You don't need to know how to pose or be naturally comfortable in front of a camera. Providing direction and creating an environment where you can relax is part of what we do.

Throughout the session, we share images as we shoot. This allows us to work collaboratively, see what's working, make adjustments, and explore different expressions and possibilities together.

The goal is to create photographs that are refined and professional while still feeling open, approachable, and real.

  • Real estate

Throughout the year, we've continued to focus on what matters most to us: creating natural, authentic photographs that feel true to the people we photograph.

Natural Studio has grown considerably this year, and we're excited about what's ahead in 2023.

How We Work Is Who We Are

How a photograph is made has a lot to do with how it ultimately feels.

At Natural Studio, our approach to portrait and headshot photography is based on simplicity. Beautiful light. Thoughtful composition. Natural direction. And enough space for the person in front of the camera to relax and be themselves.

We often hear from clients that they chose us because our photographs felt different from the more conventional headshots they were seeing. They describe the work as natural, fresh, and real—and that's something we care deeply about.

Our lighting is inspired by natural light, even when we're working in the studio. Our direction is relaxed rather than overly posed. We share images throughout the shoot so that the process becomes collaborative, allowing us to see what's working and make adjustments together.

We also believe that not everything needs to be perfected. A great portrait isn't necessarily about eliminating every imperfection or controlling every detail. It's about paying attention to the things that matter—light, expression, composition, personality—and knowing when to leave something alone.

That less-is-more philosophy carries through to our final retouching as well. We want the finished photograph to feel refined without losing the character of the person in it.

In that sense, how we work really is who we are.

We photograph actors, artists, entrepreneurs, executives, designers, creatives, and professionals at our private Brooklyn studio and on location throughout New York City.

You can explore more of our portrait and headshot photography on our website and read about our clients' experiences on Google and our Testimonials page.

If you're looking for a portrait or headshot photographer in NYC and our approach resonates with you, we'd love to hear from you.

We bring those influences into the studio through simple compositions, natural direction, and lighting that feels soft and effortless. We create a relaxed environment and collaborate throughout the shoot, sharing images as we go and allowing room for genuine expressions and unexpected moments.

A Different Approach to NYC Headshots

Fall is here in New York City, and we've been busy at our Brooklyn studio photographing actors, artists, executives, designers, entrepreneurs, musicians, architects, real estate professionals, and people from across the city's creative and professional communities.

At Natural Studio, we take a slightly different approach to portrait and headshot photography.

We're inspired by simplicity, beautiful light, and a modern sense of refinement. Rather than relying on overly posed expressions or a formula for how a professional headshot should look, we work with each person individually and allow room for the photographs to develop naturally.

We pay attention to light, composition, expression, and the subtle moments in between. The goal is to create images that feel polished but not overly produced—photographs that feel present, relaxed, and genuinely connected to the person in front of the camera.

Sometimes that results in a classic headshot. Sometimes it becomes something closer to a portrait. We like having room for both.

Our private Brooklyn studio provides a quiet, relaxed environment for shoots, and we also photograph people on location throughout New York City.

If you're looking for a different approach to portraits and headshots in NYC, we'd love to hear from you.

You can also find Natural Studio on Google for our location and reviews from our clients.

NYC Corporate Headshots

At Natural Studio, we create corporate and professional headshots with a clean, contemporary, and natural feel.

Being professional doesn't have to mean looking stiff, overly formal, or impersonal. We believe a strong corporate headshot can feel polished and refined while still being relaxed, approachable, and authentic to the person being photographed.

We work with individuals, executives, companies, and teams throughout New York City, creating headshots for company websites, LinkedIn profiles, corporate communications, press and publicity, speaking engagements, and other professional uses.

Corporate Headshots for Individuals & Teams

For companies photographing multiple people, consistency is important. We work with clients before the shoot to understand their visual needs and create an approach to lighting, background, composition, and framing that can be carried across the entire team.

At the same time, we don't want everyone to look exactly the same. We provide natural direction throughout the shoot, allowing each person's expression and personality to come through while maintaining a cohesive overall look.

Depending on the project, we can photograph a small team, an entire company, or create individual executive portraits with a more personalized approach.

At Your Office or Our Brooklyn Studio

Corporate headshots can be photographed at our private Brooklyn studio or on location at your office anywhere in New York City.

For on-site shoots, we bring the necessary lighting and photography equipment to you. We can create clean, simple headshots within an office environment or incorporate the surrounding space for environmental portraits with more context and personality.

Our Brooklyn studio near Park Slope and Gowanus is also available for individuals and smaller groups who prefer a private studio environment.

A Relaxed Approach to Professional Photography

Whether we're photographing one person or an entire team, our approach remains the same: beautiful light, thoughtful composition, natural direction, and close attention to detail.

Throughout the shoot, we share images as we go so we can make adjustments and ensure we're creating photographs that work for both the individual and the company.

The goal is professional photography that feels contemporary and cohesive without losing the personality of the people in it.

If you're looking for corporate headshots in NYC for yourself, your team, or your company, please feel free to get in touch through our Contact page. We'd love to hear about your project.

NYC Actor Headshots

At Natural Studio, we photograph actors with a simple goal: to create headshots that feel natural, expressive, and genuinely connected to the person in front of the camera.

A great actor headshot doesn't need to be complicated. It needs to look like you, but it should also have presence. Expression, light, body language, and the subtle moments between expressions can communicate far more than an elaborate setup or pose.

That's why our approach is intentionally relaxed.

We use beautiful light, simple backgrounds, and natural direction, giving you room to settle into the shoot rather than trying to manufacture a particular expression. We photograph a range of subtle variations—from open and approachable to quieter or more serious—while keeping the images grounded in who you actually are.

There's something inherently truthful about a good portrait. When someone becomes comfortable enough to stop thinking quite so much about the camera, that's often when the most interesting photographs begin to happen.

Our private Brooklyn studio is designed to make that process easy. It's a quiet, comfortable space where we can focus on the photography without unnecessary distractions.

You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what to do in front of the camera. You can show up as yourself, step into our world, and let us take care of the rest.

We photograph both established and emerging actors in New York City and can create a range of headshots for different roles and casting needs while maintaining a consistent, natural aesthetic.

If you're an actor looking for new headshots in NYC, we'd love to hear from you.

Best NYC Headshot Photographer?

We recently asked a new client how they found Natural Studio.

Their answer: “I just Googled ‘best headshot photographer NYC’ and you popped up.”

We'll take it.

Of course, we wouldn't claim to be the “best.” Photography is far too subjective for that, and finding the right photographer has a lot to do with finding work that connects with your own taste and what you're looking for.

What we can say is that we have a very clear idea of the kind of photographs we want to make.

At Natural Studio, we approach headshots as portraits. We're interested in beautiful light, simple compositions, natural expressions, and photographs that feel relaxed and specific to the person in front of the camera.

We want the finished image to feel polished and professional, but not overly posed or processed. Something contemporary and refined, but still real.

That approach isn't necessarily for everyone—and that's okay. But for people who respond to a more natural, understated style of portrait photography, it tends to be a very good fit.

Most of our sessions take place at our private Brooklyn studio near Park Slope and Gowanus. We also photograph individuals and teams on location throughout New York City, including offices, homes, outdoor spaces, and other environments.

So, are we the best NYC headshot photographer?

We'll leave that up to you.

You can explore our work on the Natural Studio website and read reviews from our clients on Google.

If you like what you see, we'd love to hear from you.

Natural Studio News: New Work & NYC Photo Locations

We've added some new portrait and headshot photography to our Portfolio page. Take a look to see what we've been shooting recently at our Brooklyn studio and around New York City.

We were also happy to be included in a recent Redfin article about unique photography locations throughout NYC.

For the article, we shared some thoughts about photographing in DUMBO, Brooklyn—one of our favorite areas for outdoor portraits. With its waterfront, open spaces, architecture, and changing natural light, DUMBO offers plenty of possibilities while still feeling distinctly New York.

We love photographing people outdoors, especially as the weather gets warmer, and it's always nice to step outside the studio and respond to a different environment.

Of course, our Brooklyn studio is here too for anyone looking for something simpler, quieter, and more controlled.

You can explore our latest work on the Portfolio page and read more about our clients' experiences on Google.

New Work — Portraits & Headshots, NYC

We've added some new portrait and headshot photography to our Portfolio page.

We've been busy photographing people at our Brooklyn studio, while the warmer weather has also given us more opportunities to get outside and shoot on location around New York City.

Whether we're working in the studio or outdoors, we like to keep the focus on the person being photographed. Our approach is intentionally simple: beautiful light, clean compositions, natural direction, and as little unnecessary distraction as possible.

Less is more, but the details matter.

We pay close attention to light, expression, composition, clothing, background, and all the small elements that come together to make a photograph feel right. At the same time, we want the process itself to remain relaxed and collaborative.

The goal is to create portraits that feel natural and present, with a simplicity that allows them to stand the test of time.

We've photographed writers, artists, actors, architects, designers, entrepreneurs, executives, and people working throughout technology, publishing, law, education, real estate, and other industries.

We collaborate with our clients throughout the shoot, paying attention to what the images need to communicate and how they'll ultimately be used. Lighting, composition, expression, background, and direction can all shift depending on the person and the purpose of the photographs.

What remains consistent is our approach: beautiful light, thoughtful composition, natural direction, and a relaxed environment where people can feel comfortable in front of the camera.

Portraits & Headshots, NYC — Our Specialty

Portrait and headshot photography is our specialty at Natural Studio.

Our approach to photography is closely connected to what we love and what inspires us: nature, simplicity, a warm kind of modernism, and beautiful light.

Those influences find their way into the photographs in subtle ways. We're drawn to clean compositions, natural expressions, quiet details, and lighting that feels soft and dimensional. Even when we're working entirely in the studio, we often look to natural light as our reference.

We want the images to feel refined without feeling overly controlled. Contemporary without being trendy. Simple, but never generic.

Most importantly, we want the person to remain at the center of the photograph.

We work with actors, artists, designers, entrepreneurs, executives, architects, and people from a wide range of creative and professional fields. They come to us for actor headshots, corporate and executive portraits, personal branding, publicity, websites, LinkedIn, social media, model portfolios, and sometimes simply because they want a great portrait of themselves.

Whatever the reason for the shoot, we approach it as a collaboration. We create a relaxed environment, pay close attention to the light and details, and give each session enough room for something natural to happen.

Our private Brooklyn studio is located near Park Slope and Gowanus, and we also photograph people on location throughout New York City.

If our approach to portraits and headshots feels like the right fit for you, we'd love to hear from you.

Recent Work — Portraits & Headshots, NYC

We've been busy at Natural Studio, photographing lots of new portraits and headshots at our Brooklyn studio.

One of the things we enjoy most about this work is the variety of people who come through the door. On any given week, we might photograph an actor, artist, entrepreneur, designer, executive, writer, or someone simply looking for a great portrait of themselves.

No two sessions are exactly the same, but the atmosphere we try to create is consistent.

Our studio is a relaxed, creative space, and the way we work is open and collaborative. We share images throughout the session, talk about what's working, make adjustments as we go, and give the shoot enough room to develop naturally.

For us, the experience of making the photographs is connected to the photographs themselves. When the environment feels comfortable and the process isn't overly rigid, people have more room to simply be themselves in front of the camera.

You can get a better sense of what it's like to work with us by reading our client testimonials or reviews on Google.

And, of course, you can explore our recent portrait and headshot photography throughout the Natural Studio website.
