While many of our portrait and headshot sessions take place at our private Brooklyn studio, we also love photographing people outdoors and on location throughout New York City.

Shooting outside offers a different feeling from the studio. Natural light, architecture, streets, parks, and the changing seasons can all become subtle elements of the photographs while still allowing us to maintain the clean, natural aesthetic that defines our work.

We approach outdoor portraits much as we do our studio work—looking for beautiful light, simple compositions, and relaxed moments that feel authentic to the person being photographed. The surroundings add context and atmosphere without needing to overwhelm the portrait.

Over the years, we've photographed people throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn in a variety of environments and at different times of the year. Depending on what you're looking for, a session can take place entirely outdoors, entirely in the studio, or incorporate a combination of both.

Outdoor portraits can work particularly well for personal branding, professional headshots, creative portraits, social media, company websites, press and publicity, and anyone looking for imagery with a little more sense of place and personality.

New Work: Portraits for Business & Personal Branding

We recently had the pleasure of working with Studio PPARK, a full-service design practice focused primarily on residential construction and renovation.

For the shoot, we traveled to their design studio in Irvington, New York, overlooking the Hudson River in Westchester County. The goal was to create a mix of professional headshots and environmental portraits that felt natural and reflected both the people and the character of their workspace.

The studio had beautiful natural window light, which we complemented with our own lighting to create a consistent, polished look while maintaining the natural feeling of the space.

Photographing people in their own working environment offers possibilities that are different from a traditional studio session. In addition to clean headshots, the surrounding architecture, objects, and natural light can become part of the photographs, adding context and a stronger sense of place.

For businesses and personal branding, this combination can be particularly useful. A single shoot can create a range of imagery for company websites, team pages, LinkedIn profiles, press and publicity, social media, and other marketing materials.
