Children's Portrait Photography - Brooklyn, Manhattan, Westchester County New York

Photographing children is very different from photographing adults—and that's part of what we love about it. Kids tend to live naturally in the moment, which creates opportunities for photographs that feel spontaneous, expressive, and genuinely their own.

At Natural Studio, our approach to children's photography is relaxed and simple. Rather than trying to overly pose or direct every moment, we create an environment where kids can be themselves while we pay close attention to light, composition, expression, and the small unexpected moments that happen along the way.

The result is a mix of classic portraits and more candid images that capture some of the energy and personality of childhood. We want the photographs to feel beautiful and timeless, but also real.

Children's portrait sessions can take place at our private Brooklyn studio, outdoors, at home, or at another location throughout New York City and Westchester County. Depending on the family and the type of photographs you're looking for, we can also combine more traditional portraits with relaxed, natural images of children playing and interacting.

Case Study: Model Portfolio Headshots & Digitals — Alexandra, NYC

Here at Natural Studio, another area we often work in is shooting portfolio images, headshots, and digitals for models. For these types of shoots, we either work with the model’s agency or just directly with the model. The models we work with cover a broad range from totally brand new to modeling to those who have been in the business for several decades. There is a fun creative opportunity regardless of the subject’s experience level. We use our own knowledge, skills, and experience to work with the talent to create classic, timeless photographs. Our work is known for its quality, natural looking light, and real personal connection as opposed to the overdone, over processed, artificial light type of look. There is usually either no makeup or just a light foundation as we want the talent to look great but we also want to show what they actually look like. We avoid elaborate poses and other distractions and instead focus on what we love which is soft amazing light and a really natural, fresh kind of vibe that aims to capture the unique authentic character of the individual.

In Between Moments

We're drawn to straightforward portraits—someone looking into the camera, simply and directly.

But we're equally interested in what happens in between.

A shift in expression. A glance away. A laugh after the photograph you thought you were making. The small, unplanned moments that happen when someone briefly stops thinking about the camera.

We like making room for both.

The more direct images can have a simplicity and presence to them, while the in-between moments often reveal something less expected. Together, they can create a fuller and more interesting portrait of a person.

Sometimes the photograph you weren't quite looking for becomes the one you remember.
