We recently shot with a new client and asked them “How did you find us?” They said “I just googled best headshot photographer NYC and it popped up”.

Ok, cool.

While we would not claim to be “the best”, as that is really something very subjective, we do pride ourselves on doing something different and always aiming to do our best at what that is.

And what is that? First let me quickly sum up what it is not. What we avoid is creating photographs with bad artificial looking lighting and people looking stiff, boring, or in overly posed situations. We seek the opposite and that is our specialty—portraits and headshots shot in an authentic natural style. The way we use light, the ways we work with our subject, and just our overall natural leaning aesthetic, all play a big part in our process and the style of work we create.

We mostly shoot in our chill vibes Brooklyn studio but also go out on location to shoot outdoors or at agencies, office spaces, etc.

It’s also been getting nicer outside so we have managed to do some fun outdoor photo shoots too here in NYC and we are excited to do more of those this spring. Whether we are photographing in our studio or on location, we always like to keep the focus on the person being photographed. We take a clean clutter free less is more approach. That said, we pay very close attention to details. To us it is all about getting things just right but by way of a process that is fun and relaxed and that leads to strong images that feel natural and stand the test of time.

Happy New Year from us here at Natural Studio. We hope you have an awesome 2022! Our photography studio here in Brooklyn is nice and warm during these winter months. A great place to work, play, and create. We are enjoying the quieter vibe of winter. It’s still NYC, so not that quiet but these colder months do seem to have a bit of a slower pace to them which can be a good thing. But our year has also been off to a busy start here in our studio. We’ve been shooting a lot of portraits and headshots with a talented mix of individuals here in NYC. Here at Natural Studio, we will always remember 2021 as the year where we had a fresh start here. After having to shut down for almost all of 2020 due to Covid-19, we reopened in Spring of 2021 and once again started providing portraits and headshots to the community of NYC. In the summer we moved into our new studio in Brooklyn which we love and things really picked up. We have met and collaborated with so many awesome creative individuals throughout this year. We were fortunate to work with many talented people in a whole range of fields including acting, design, real estate, tech, fashion, fine art, film, and more. The one thing I can say all of these people had in common was that they were creative inspired people pursuing their passions. We find it very inspiring and it is exciting to be a part of that. We also had a lot of fun as always just playing outside and in the studio, making more photos that have that fresh natural vibe we always strive to create. It’s been a great year!

We recently did a really fun kids photography shoot here in our Brooklyn, New York studio! Working with children is awesome because they can often be so spontaneous and free. You never know exactly what you will end up with and that is part of the fun! When photographing kids, we shoot quite fast to capture a mix of moods, expressions, and situations in a short amount of time. We try to do it all pretty quickly so we can capture their natural excitement before they lose interest. Instead of telling them how to pose in a specific way, we prefer to create a place in which they can express themselves in their own way and we just document it. Working with kids is quite refreshing and…inspiring!

What makes a great photograph? A great portrait? A great headshot? A great image? Generally speaking, the answer to that is very subjective. There are the technical aspects and aesthetic components but then there are also the more organic less tangible aspects of an image that come into play. Lighting usually plays a big factor as does composition. The sensitivity and often nuanced approach of the photographer plays a big role in the making of a great photo as does how they are able to work with the subject and make it more of a collaboration. A crucial element of successful photography is a degree of emotional connection between the photographer, the camera, and the subject that just feels right. These are all things we become aware of in our practice of portrait photography. We always seek to be in the moment and open to the uniqueness of every photo shoot.

We are very excited to be moving into a new studio space in NYC in just a couple of weeks! Our new studio will be located in Brooklyn, New York in an area we consider Gowanus but it’s actually kind of in a nook where the neighborhoods of Gowanus, Park Slope, Red Hook, and Sunset Park all converge together. It’s close to the water and in a mixed use area we consider very inspiring. Conveniently located near F, G, and R trains. We are still doing shoots in our current space in the meantime but really looking forward to shooting lots of portraits, headshots, and more in our new photo space!
